Katherine “Kitty” Callaghan worked at Western Massachusetts Legal Services for over 27 years specializing in housing law before the program joined with Legal Assistance Corporation of Central Massachusetts to form Community Legal Aid in 2011. Kitty has successfully litigated numerous cases and handled several appeals. Some of her appeals have resulted in groundbreaking decisions that have advanced important rights for tenants in Massachusetts. Throughout her career, Kitty has engaged in community work that has resulted in significant benefits for the low-income communities of western Massachusetts. The results of her community work include: the preservation of over 200 units of affordable housing; the establishment of the Northampton Living Wage Campaign; and the expansion of the Hampden County Housing Court to include all of western Massachusetts.
