“CLA is among our top charitable causes. It just makes sense to us. We both believe that we should give back to the community that has given so much to us and CLA is a natural fit for folks in our line of work. Providing high-quality legal services to people in real need is important in our view. CLA...deserves a financial commitment and we have tried to do our part by donating what 'feels right.' [A $1,000 annual donation] is a significant sum but if you budget your charitable giving, like we try to do, it is really only $10 per week for each of us to reach the $1,000. And we get two weeks off from the $10 a week budget! Depending upon how you count 'practicing lawyers,' if every lawyer in Worcester County — and remember CLA is Worcester County AND Hampden, Hampshire, Franklin and Berkshire counties — but if only the Worcester County lawyers contributed $10 per week, that $500 per lawyer per year would mean annual support for legal aid programs of at least $1,000,000. Imagine the impact a million dollars would make and the help it would allow CLA to give to thousands more people in need. We realize that not every member of the legal profession — lawyers and judges as well as court workers — is in a position to make a gift at this level, but we also believe that with some encouragement more can be done."
